Entergy New Orleans wants to you to pay over $210 million dollars over the next 30 years to build a natural gas plant in Michoud. These are the facts, stated by Entergy employees, including the CEO, Charles Rice.
Entergy's CT Gas plant will:
  • Create ONLY 13 permanent jobs. Jobs are great, but shouldn't New Orleanians get more than 13 for over $210 million dollars?
  • Be paid for ENTIRELY by ratepayers (everyone with energy bills in New Orleans), Entergy doesn't pay a single cent.
  • Guarantee Entergy more than 11% return on equity, meaning however much the plant costs, we pay an additional 11% of that directly to Entergy as profit.
    • That's $24 million in profits based on the $216 million price tag for its original plans (Times Picayune article).
  • Add to the subsidence of New Orleans, making everyone more susceptible to larger and more frequent flooding
  • Release toxic pollution into the air New Orleanians breathe
  • Only be used for 50 hours a YEAR, that's less than 1% of the year

Entergy's CT Gas plant will NOT:
  • Keep your lights on! Entergy's own data shows that 98% of all outages since 2011 have been caused by problems with the transmission and distribution system. So putting more power into the grid won't keep your lights on or your AC running, it will just cost you more money.
